H.E.L.P. Sites
Homeless children often face interrupted education, diminished self-esteem, and an increased risk of teen pregnancy and criminal behavior.
It is crucial to instill self-esteem and a strong drive to succeed to help prevent homelessness in future generations.
Every HELP USA family residence offers a range of extensive programs to support young people, including early childhood education, daycare, after-school programs, and mentoring.
Children who participate in these programs gain a sense of stability and self-worth, allowing them to focus on their education and work toward a brighter future. (www.HELPUSA.org)
Arts & Crafts
Arts & Crafts provides participants with the opportunity to express their creativity and engage in diverse art forms. This activity supports social-emotional learning by allowing participants to explore painting, drawing, sculpting, and other artistic endeavors.
It encourages each student to express their voice and feel included within the club.
Brent's Club
Ages 10-18 years old
In honor of the Shapiro Foundation and the late Brent Shapiro, Brent’s Club is a drug awareness program dedicated to teaching youth the importance of living above the influence.
The program uniquely combines drug prevention with incentives for maintaining sobriety, offering a comprehensive approach to fostering a drug-free lifestyle.
Healthy Habits
Using the Boys & Girls Club's Triple Play curriculum, Healthy Habits teaches participants the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The program covers key aspects such as healthy eating, regular exercise, proper hygiene, and cultivating a positive mindset about wellness.
Literacy
Program staff offers age-appropriate literacy and critical thinking activities, including read-alouds, word games, brainteasers, individual and group creative writing, vocabulary and sight words, and reading comprehension exercises. The goal is to enhance basic reading and writing skills while fostering critical thinking abilities.
LCS Music Program
Our program collaborates with Darren Quinlan, CEO of LCS Music, to offer accessible and enjoyable music education for our members. Participants learn to play drums, keyboard, electric bass, and guitar, with vocal lessons available for those interested.
Lessons cover music notation, song structure and writing, and the history of artists and bands from various genres and eras. Members also have the opportunity to showcase their progress through recitals.
Mad Science
Our program partners with Mad Science and the Crayola Imagine Arts Academies to offer twelve winter and twelve spring sessions of engaging science activities.
Winter sessions delve into NASA and space exploration, while spring sessions explore the science behind detective work. These collaborations provide our members with unique opportunities to learn and explore science from innovative perspectives.
Power Hour
Following the BGCA model, program staff assist with homework for one hour each day. This support helps members begin their homework and receive additional guidance. Staff members work closely with individuals to ensure they get the help they need in areas where they may be struggling.
Physical Recreation
Program staff utilize the Boys & Girls Club's Triple Play curriculum to guide activities. Triple Play focuses on three core concepts of healthy living for youth: Mind, Body, and Soul.
-
Mind: Covers Healthy Habits, emphasizing the importance of proper hygiene, recognizing healthy and unhealthy foods, and understanding meal portions.
-
Body: Includes daily exercise challenges such as push-ups, jumping jacks, and sit-ups to keep members physically active.
-
Soul: Focuses on teaching the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and effective communication.
SMART Moves
Members participate in Boys & Girls Club-specific programs under the SMART Moves curriculum, which focuses on developing healthy self-esteem, essential life skills, and age- and gender-specific knowledge.
These programs help members manage social situations effectively and adopt best practices for character development.
Social Recreation
Members engage in board games and creative play, which fosters healthy competition and creativity. Through these activities, they develop sportsmanship and social-emotional skills, learning to interact positively with their peers. These experiences encourage fairness, citizenship, and effective social functioning.
