Character & Leadership
BEKB isn’t just a mindset. It’s a commitment that helps every member graduate on time and be ready for post-secondary education. Here are all the ways we’re making that happen.
Torch Club
Torch Clubs are small-group leadership clubs designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13.
These clubs, known as “clubs within the Club,” focus on meeting the unique character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their lives.
Torch Clubs provide a powerful platform for developing 21st-century leadership skills and fostering a strong foundation of character and integrity. Members elect officers and collaborate on projects in four key areas: service to the Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation.
Torch Clubs also participate in the Climate SuperStars challenge, an annual online environmental competition sponsored by Samsung Electronics America, where eligible clubs can win exciting Samsung products.
Keystone: The Premiere Teen Club
Keystone Clubs offer leadership development for young people ages 14 to 18, focusing on academic success, career preparation, and community service. Guided by an adult advisor, Keystone Clubs aims to positively impact members, the Club, and the broader community. Members engage in activities that build essential skills and contribute to meaningful community service.
An annual highlight is the National Keystone Conference hosted by BGCA, where Keystone members from around the globe come together to connect, discuss relevant issues, and enhance their contributions to their local Clubs and communities.
Passport to Manhood
Launched in 1999, the Kips Bay Passport to Manhood program has guided thousands of youth on their journey from adolescence to adulthood. This program empowers young people to make healthy decisions regarding their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. Through practical exercises in decision-making, conflict resolution, and building healthy relationships, participants develop the essential attitudes, values, and skills needed to become responsible adults. Passport to Manhood provides a structured path to personal growth and responsible adulthood.

Youth of the Year
Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club kid can receive. The teen selected to be the National Youth of the Year represents Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the voices of millions of Club youth.
And for more than 75 years, the Youth of the Year program has recognized young people for their outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to health and wellbeing.
Chess Club
Playing chess enhances critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and memory retention while fostering patience, concentration, and effective time management. Chess also promotes resilience and sportsmanship, making it a valuable tool for intellectual and personal growth.
Our program introduces beginners of all ages to chess fundamentals, including the moves of each piece and strategies for competitive play. Once members have mastered the basics, they can compete in real tournaments against players from around the world, showcasing their skills and dedication.
Junior Leaders Club
Designed for teens ages 12-14, the Junior Leader Program provides valuable work experience through volunteer opportunities at the Boys & Girls Club. Participants receive job skills training and attend workshops while engaging in supervised volunteer activities.
This program is an excellent way for young teens to build a strong foundation of professional skills, gain hands-on experience, and make meaningful contributions to their community.
